UAE's Latest Changes in the Employment Contract Regulations

The UAE is witnessing a wave of changes in visa and employment related legalities. The latest changes have been made to the regulation on employment contracts, and the Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation (MoHRE) announced the new amendments to the decree-law with respect to the Regulation of Employment Relationships. The new amendments require the employment contracts to cover a defined term. The term can be renewed subject to mutual agreement by both the parties involved in the contractual relationship, and the law does not get involved in defining the term.

The amendment is designed to ensure the protection of both the parties in the contractual relationship in a balanced way. The regulations have been modified to encourage advances in the labour market’s growth and stability, and to improve the economic competitiveness of the UAE. The UAE government will continue to develop and amend laws and regulations to ensure alignment with the UAE’s development demand for the next 50 years. The laws and regulations will provide support for the business environment’s stability and enhance its attractiveness and resiliency. The regulations have been developed to follow the UAE’s advanced developmental model, and the principles and fundamentals of the UAE are built on respecting human rights, justice, and foreseeing and staying ahead of changes. This developmental approach will ensure the UAE’s pioneering stature, stability and continued progress. The new amendments will build an advanced ecosystem of mechanisms that will enhance productivity, the ease of doing business, and resilience within the UAE’s labour market, which in turn will increase the attractiveness of the UAE’s labour market and business world to talented individuals.
